VOЇN Carbon 01

VOЇN Carbon 01 is a set of wheels for maximum performance. They consist of a 100% real Carbon rim (not metal covered with a "carbon look" film), a forged center made of 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum and titanium connecting screws.

SMC-Forged is the most modern technology for manufacturing carbon products used in the manufacture of this wheel.

SMC-forged (Sheet Molding Compound) technology is a modern hybrid manufacturing process that combines the principles of forging, carbon fiber manufacturing and compression molding. It is most often used in the creation of high-performance wheels and parts for the aerospace industry, where the strength-to-weight ratio is crucial.

Process

• SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) is a mixture of short carbon fibers impregnated with resin.

• The material is placed in a heated mold and pressed under high pressure.

• The result is a part with a directional fiber flow, which provides maximum strength in the load-bearing areas.

• This method differs from traditional autoclave molding, which uses manual layering of carbon, and from metal forging, which deforms an aluminum billet.

Advantages

• Extremely light: up to 40-50% lighter than aluminum forging.

• High stiffness and tensile strength: ideal for disc rims, effectively withstands lateral loads.

• Thermal stability: carbon does not conduct heat like metal, so brakes and tires work more efficiently.

• Better vibration isolation: the composite structure reduces noise and improves driving comfort.

Disadvantages

• High cost: requires special equipment and small production runs.

• Repairability: Carbon rims cannot be welded or repaired using traditional methods.

• Design limitations: The shape of the rim is determined by the mold, so complex bends and deep spokes may not be possible.

Areas of application

SMC-forged technology is mainly used in:

• High-tech automotive wheels (for example, Dymag, Carbon Revolution and other brands offering carbon rims).

• Motorsport and aerospace, where reducing rotating mass is critical.

Bottom line: SMC-forged carbon technology allows for wheels that are both ultra-light and ultra-strong, which provides significant performance benefits for high-performance cars such as the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. But it should be noted that this is an expensive and difficult-to-maintain premium product.
